Overview

As a rule, we prefer Google Chrome as your primary browser as it is more secure, faster, and works better with all of the Google applications.

You can learn about Chrome at http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/more/index.html

Also, when viewing Gmail, the built-in Google Chat does not work with Internet Explorer the same way that it works automatically when using Google Chrome.

But, there are scenarios that Chrome/Gmail does not work as seamlessly as Internet Explorer.

Adding Lines to Deltek

When adding a new line to your timesheet, you may get the following notification while using Google Chrome.

Please use Internet Explorer for adding lines to the timesheet. All other functions seem to work as they should, but this one function does not act properly.

Sharepoint

Sharepoint is usable while using Chrome to browse, but you will lose some functionality.

Because Sharepoint is a Microsoft product, and so is Internet Explorer, they work more cohesively together than Chrome and Sharepoint.

By using Internet Explorer while using Sharepoint, it not only gives you added capabilities, but if you are logged into an IIa computer, it will also pass your credentials so that you don't have to login to sharepoint as it uses your Windows login to do this task for you.

If you get a notification from Sharepoint Contracts on needing to approve a task, there are two options that will make things easier on you.

In either browser, you can use the second link in the email that says "Edit this Task", or you can go to http://www.myiia.net/departments/contracts/Lists/Tasks/MyItems.aspx and see all of your outstanding tasks for the Contracts department on Sharepoint.

Ultipro and BLR

Ultipro and BLR do not yet support Google Chrome, so if you have issues with either of these sites while using Chrome, then please try Internet Explorer.

Many people have had 0 issues out of these two sites while using Chrome while others are unable to get the needed functionality out of Chrome while navigating the websites.

PN3

PN3 works with Chrome for everything except for Rejecting invoices. Viewing and Approving invoices works fine. If you still wish to use Internet Explorer for this purpose, see the section below on using a non-default browser.

Using a non-default Browser

If Google Chrome is your default browser, you can find internet explorer by going to start --> all programs --> Internet Explorer.

You can also go to Q:\Shortcuts in order to download Internet Explorer links for those links that work with Internet Explorer best so that it opens IE instead of Chrome when clicking the link.

IE Tab Usage

Chrome is a great tool that is fast, and works extremely well with most applications, as we have indicated before.

But there are some applications that would much rather have Microsoft Internet Explorer as their browser, specifically, Sharepoint.

Because of this, there is a Chrome Extension called IE Tab.

You can install IE Tab from here while using Chrome.

What does IE Tab do? (from the Extensions web site)

Use Internet Explorer to display web pages in a Chrome tab. Some sites can only be displayed using IE, and with this extension you can now see those sites without leaving Chrome. Great for web developers who want to test the IE rendering engine, users who use sites with ActiveX controls, and users who want to use the explorer view for local files (i.e. file:// URLs).

So, you can either have it switch over manually by hitting the IE tab button in Google Chrome, or have it automatically change to using Internet Explorer upon launch of certain websites like Sharepoint or PN3.

To enable automatic switching of Sharepoint,

1. Install IE tab by opening Google Chrome and going to the link in the first paragraph above.

2. Click on this link to open the IE tab options page where Myiia will already be populated under the Auto URLs area.

3. Click on add next to Auto URLs to add Myiia to your automatic URL's that will always use IE Tab.

4. Add any other websites in that same line, such as https://www.myiia.net, https://secure.infointl.com, http://financesvr/PN3/PN3Payables/, https://www.ultiproworkplace.com/, or http://training.blr.com.

This may keep you from having to switch back and forth between Internet Explorer and Google Chrome and may enable you to keep some semblance of sanity in the meantime.

HELP, my home page is gone!

During the latest string of updates to Google Chrome, some users may notice that their home page was replaced by a blank page wanting you to download Angry Birds. This is just Google's "New Tab" page. You can restore your original home page by clicking on the wrench (top right) and click Options. On Startup, make sure 'Open the home page' is selected, and under Home Page, select 'Open this Page', which should already have your original home page listed.
